Crimbo and Boxing Day Archive
Ahoy there! land lubbers! The festive season is over but memories are still clear in mi minds eye......hopefully everyone survived passed the year end and good cheer was had by all......:) I anchored myself in the port of Scarborough throughout the Christmas and boxing day period but spent new years in New Zealand .....so read on and I'll tell you tales of merriment and of many a seasons greetings..... T'was the night before Christmas not a creature was stirring not even a mouse.....bollocks! I was down the pub.... Wandered into the usual haunts at the top of town collecting new drinking friends as the night progressed until finally entering what I call the Beer Goggle zone.... At this point in the evening the gap widens between fantasy and reality....and those holding the car keys begin to feel increasingly out of place.....The Zone covers The Sun, Quids Inn, Equestrian, Boleyns, Kings, Club XS, The New George, The White Horse, and Yates's Wine Lodge etc......though you get kicked out pretty sharpish from Yates's which leads to a slight re-awakening of the senses......but it doesn't last too long.
The New George was lively and full of party revellers fresh from the works do's.....take a peek at the GIVE US A FLASH! section and you'll see what I mean :) Rocky was in cheery spirits dispite having watched Paul Ingle's hopes of ledgendary status crumble into a hospital ward a few days before....many locals were keeping their fingers crossed he'd pull out of his coma before the end of the month...... Rocky has added a collection urn at the end of Rocky's Bar for those wishing to help with Paul's mother's and fiance's travelling expences....
After a boogy on the New George Dance floor I wrapped the evening's entertainment up with a visit to Boleyns...picking up a few things on the way Boxing Day is always a big day in Scarborough for many reasons....oft called Ladies day everyone uses it as an excuse to dress up either in festive trimmings or in costume, put on Aunty Mildrids' Crimbo jumper she knitted you and visit as many pubs as you can starting from 11 am ......there are the family activities down at the beach such as Fisherman's fancy dress footy match, the mile of pennies and the Raft race around the harbour....but most "young'uns" start at the Tap'n'spile and head off into town taking in a half in each pub as you pass them.....
I think I'd better go home now.......hic! Although Boxing Day was fairly exhausting....it was nothing when compared with the air journey to New Zealand.... Click here for NZ Pubs Well best be orf and catch the tide......all aboard.....splice the mains'l.....make ready and cast off those big heavy ropes.....set sail for the open seas and mind the sand bar......catch you laters land lubbers!........ I'm off to the poop deck
